Spode is a historic ceramic manufacturer founded in Stoke-on-Trent, England in 1770 by Josiah Spode. Around 1784, they developed a technique for underglaze painting using copperplate transfer technology, and later perfected fine bone china, a transparent white ceramic. In the early 19th century, they received the honor of being a purveyor to the British Royal Family, and produced many pieces beloved around the world, such as Blue Italian, which depicts an ancient Roman motif. Currently, they are under the umbrella of Portmeirion, and continue to protect their traditions and craftsmanship.
This piece features beautiful designs based on ancient Greek mythology, architecture, and decoration, beautifully painted with a contrast of blue and white.
